Put Your Message on a Brantwood Brick

The support of the Brick Pathways project has been strong from Brantwood alumni as well as friends and supporters of Brantwood Camp. There are many bricks ordered for the Centennial Pathways to the Commons Buildings at each campus and there is room for more. One brick costs $25, engraving is included, or you can order 5 bricks for $100. A brick with a message of your choice will be delivered to Brantwood and installed at the campus you specify.

To order, you may contact the Camp office at 603-924-3542 for information. Engraved bricks will be on display during Alumni Day and additional order forms and information will be available. Brick orders are being accepted on an ongoing basis. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize a special camper, counselor, trustee, friend, or memory.

We hope you will join us in the continuing creation of the Centennial Pathways.

The BWC Waysiders Capture Favorite Campfire Songs on a CD
by Elizabeth Leonard and Jennifer K. Brown

What is Brantwood without singing? Every camper and counselor remembers at least a few camp songs fondly, and Brantwood has an especially rich tradition of song. To help you recapture this part of your camp experience, a CD of all-time favorite BWC campfire songs has been released.

Two former BWC directors, Noelle Leonard and Nick Noble, led the production of Brantwood in Song. On a sunny winter day in March, they convened the "BWC Waysiders," gathering together more than thirty counselors, alumni, trustees, former directors, sponsors, and parents of campers from as far as New York and Nantucket for the first recording session. The session was held at Boston Center for the Arts, a wonderful theatre space that was graciously donated by former BWC boys director Paul Daigneault. BWC executive director Amy Willey and boys director Kevin Mitrano also joined the group.

After warming up the vocal chords, the Waysiders launched into some old favorites including: Ship Titanic, Comin' Round the Mountain, Rise and Shine, Tavern in the Town, and, of course, The Brantwood Song and Long Long Trail. Through many takes, spirits remained high and voices were loud and energetic.

On April 4, a smaller group convened at the Fay School in Southborough, Massachusetts to continue recording. Led again by Nick and Noelle, Peter Swaim, Margaret Gurney, Tim Barton, Linzee Coolidge, Jessica Terry, Erin Doherty and Maura Navin sang and harmonized together on tunes including Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Sun of My Soul. Trustee Linzee Coolidge took advantage of this one-time chance to record a great rendition of the much loved, Go Tell Aunt Rhody.

Now, the voices and much loved music of Brantwood Camp will be preserved for future generations to use and enjoy. The CD is unquestionably a musical time capsule - capturing the rich heritage and musical tradition that has been at the heart of Brantwood for the past 100 years. Thank you to all who were a part of its creation. Here's to the next 100! The cost of the CD is $15.00 plus a shipping and handling charge of $5.00. To order a CD please contact us.

Thank You Hannah Anderson, Keith Anderson, Megan Bishop, Toni Candow (Baldassari), James Carmichael, Zachary Comstock, Brian Eaton, Lindsay Fry, Matt Fry, Patrick Lahar, Elizabeth Leonard, Kevin Mitrano, Stu Peoples, Edward Puliafico, Vicki Sheppard, Denise Sherwood, Joe Sherwood, Krystie Sherwood, Mark Sherwood, Tara Silano, Kathleen Skinner, Megan Skinner, Mary Fran Skovera, Jennifer Sullivan (Carmichael), Sean VanHoesen, Sean Warren, and Dale Wiseman.

Archives

The complete Brantwood Archives are now part of the Peterborough Historical Society's Permanent Collection (19 Grove St., www.peterboroughhistory.org). Special credit goes to Honorary Trustee Jim Jenkins for his pioneering work in this regard and for his continued devotion to Brantwood and its Archives. Also thanks to everyone who helped with the Archives during their travels, especially Tony and Elsa Hill at St. Mark's School, former PC Tim Barton, the Gurney family, Ms. Willey, current St. Marker Lindsey Gurian (the 2003 recipient of the John Elliot Seager Cup as the summer's best shack counselor at Brantwood for Girls), and several folks at the Fay School. Finally, much appreciation and gratitude to everyone at the Peterborough Historical Society for their welcoming hospitality and generous patience.
